'Chemicals in Orange Theory Fitness wet wipes are BAD for your health. Listen, I love OTF but I HATE the sani-wipes! We go through dozens per class and thousands per week in our studio alone. I am on a mission to get my studio to change to reusable towels and eco-friendly solutions like isopropyl alcohol. Conventional cleaning solutions are filled with toxic chemicals that are bad for people and marine life, effecting fish AND us like we\'re taking estrogen! PLEASE SHARE with your Orange Theory Fitness studio and let\'s stop the in(SANI)ty! FIRST EMAIL: Hi there! I am the OTF member who spoke with you a little while back about changing to sani-wipes with fewer chemicals in them. Those chemicals seep into groundwater and run-off into waterways. Many of the cleaning solutions used have estrogenic effects on marine life, for instance causing male fish to create egg yolk protein (and having potentially deleterious effects on their reproductive abilities – not good when our wild salmon are endangered here in Puget Sound). The chemicals can also affect humans similarly. They are often hormone and thyroid disrupters. I have pasted some links below for further info. Sani wipes can disregard FDA ruling on dangerous chemicals in soaps: https://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm517478.htm Sani wipes clogging sewers: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/16/wipes-pollution/2522919/ Dirty truth about cleaning supplies: https://www.today.com/health/dirty-truth-about-cleaning-products-wbna26903507 A Youtube video I recently produced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iO3hE3dymM&t=99s This is a direct quote from the FDA link above: “Consumers may think antibacterial washes are more effective at preventing the spread of germs, but we have no scientific evidence that they are any better than plain soap and water,” said Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). “In fact, some data suggests that antibacterial ingredients may do more harm than good over the long-term.” I am planning to start bringing my own cleaning wipes anyway, as I am trying to rid these chemicals from my own household. I think Orange Theory Fitness would make a big impact if it switched to something less toxic, not just for its members but for the environment. The amount of wipes used on a daily basis at our gym alone is quite numerous. Thanks for your consideration! SECOND EMAIL: Ammonium chloride is a toxin. Here is a write up from the CDC and national institutes of health. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/ipcsneng/neng1051.html https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/a?dbs+hsdb:@term+@DOCNO+7611 It maybe difficult to find a pre-packaged sani wipe that’s clear, but it’s cheap and easy with spraying either hydrogen peroxide or ethyl alcohol. Would OTF consider a spray? You would cut cost big time and waste material. I do really appreciate your taking this seriously and considering it.'
