'RESILIENCE  It’s amazing the resilience of the human spirit isn’t it? Think back on your own life, on the challenges you or others you know, have had to face. Challenges come in varying degrees of difficulty and intensity. Resilience is the ability to become strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happens. How resilient are you? New scientific research shows that there are four types of resilience we can work on and develop our strengths in. They are Physical, Mental, Emotional and Social Resilience. We can actually build our resilience by doing some very simple things. Would you like to know what they are? Let me tell you.  1. Physical Resilience: Never sit still for more than one hour at a time. You don’t have to be a superstar athlete. Just get up and move around. It creates momentum. Once you get your energy moving, it keeps you moving.  2. Mental Resilience: Tackle tiny goals regularly to boost your willpower. Why tiny, because you know you can be successful. Puzzles, games, new hobbies. Read books, travel. Keep your mind stimulated.  3. Emotional Resilience: 3:1 positive emotion ratio. Experiencing three positive emotions for every negative emotion will dramatically improve your health and your ability to successfully undertake any problem you are facing.  4. Social Resilience: Reach out to one person you care for every day. This is the way we get strength from our family, our neighbours, our friends and our community. Another great way is through gratitude and touch. Science shows that people who regularly boost their Physical, Mental, Emotional and Social resilience live 10 years longer than everyone else! It is remarkable how little feats, simple, easy, little feats can have such a profound impact on what you feel and how you live. I guess the key in all of this life is to understand that the power lies within you. The power is in your hands to create the life that you want to live, merely by doing simple little things on a regular basis. It has been proven to add years to your life.  So what’s it going to take to make the difference in your own life? What’s it going to take for you to accept to be the master of your life? I guess, really, the first place to start is to make a commitment to yourself. You can do it. You can give that love to yourself. You can be courageous. You can do the simple little things like reach out to one person every day that you care about, to share a kind word or give a hug - 6 seconds is all it takes to raise your level of Oxytocin, the trust and social bonding hormone. There is no room for judgement here. There is only room for encouragement; to encourage you to use the tools, as many of them as possible, to change your life for the better. I believe in you.
